Rumor Has It Hedi Slimane Is Starting His Own Line

He might be out at Saint Laurent, but designer Hedi Slimane isn’t done with fashion—maybe. Rumor has it the former Saint Laurent creative director is already meeting with potential backers for his own eponymous label, an option he’s explored at least once in the past. On Friday that Slimane has been spotted at the offices of Mayhoola for Investments, the Qatari venture capital firm that owns Valentino and the menswear brand Pal Zileri. It also owns an Italian firm called Forall Confezioni, which holds licenses for Cerrutti 1881 and Moschino. If Slimane really is looking for a partner to finance a new label, Mayhoola makes a lot of sense. The firm, which is widely believed to be the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar’s stylish royal family, has invested billions of dollars in European fashion houses in recent years. And Slimane would need some truly excellent resources to compete with the world’s biggest fashion houses. Read more at GQ.
