This Sock Advent Calendar Is Actually Pretty Cool
When I was a kid, one of my parents’ favorite gag Christmas gifts was socks. My sister and I thought they were boring, so they were a prime opportunity for a grown-up laugh at the younger generation’s expense. (Also, a not-so-subtle message from my father to stop stealing his socks and wear my own.) If you’re wondering why I’m going into detail about my progenitors’ gift-giving proclivities, here’s why: As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to genuinely love getting socks as a present. And (highly unscientific) research confirms that a lot of other men—whether or not their parents exacted minor psychological torture via hosiery when they were younger—agree with that sentiment. But here’s the thing: They’ve got to be good socks. Like, say, the ones made by the Welsh knitwear specialists (and suppliers to the British crown) at Corgi.
