The Do-It-All Summer Shoe That Isn’t A Pair Of Sneakers
Nothing against a pair of old school kicks but there are other affordable, endlessly versatile footwear styles out there if you need to take a break from rubber soles—especially in the summer. Espadrilles are a great option. While they can’t be worn on the court per se, the hand-woven sole makes them sturdy enough for any other city, country, or beach adventure (they were once worn by warriors, remember). We also dig the elegant, laid back vibe they impart. One look at Mahershala Ali in his pair by Soludos from our latest issue (above) and you’ll see what we’re saying. Picture that outfit with cheap plastic flip flops or chunky kicks and tell us it would look at smooth. It wouldn’t. Espadrilles look great with printed shorts, of course, but you can also rock them with a chinos, jeans, or even a cotton suit. They’re also ideal for travel since they take up so little space. Throw a pair in your car, your gym bag, or your weekend bag, and keep a pair at your partner’s place while you’re at it. Anywhere you might enjoy the option to free your feet is where they belong. And, with plenty of styles under $150, it’s easy to justify stocking up on the summer shoe. See more at GQ.
