TWOTHIRDS AND STAN CLOTHING RELEASE A SUSTAINABLE APPAREL COLLECTION

by John Russel Jones

TwoThirds, the Barcelona, Spain-based apparel brand, has collaborated with Los Angeles, California-based fashion designer Tristan Detwiler of Stan Clothing to release a sustainable apparel line inspired by the laid-back allure of the Southern California beach lifestyle. Sharing a deep love for the ocean and antique textiles, TwoThirds and Stan Clothing have joined forces to deliver a capsule collection of thoughtfully crafted garments that intertwine history with contemporary design. Detwiler, well known for his custom-crafted jackets for celebrities including Noah Kahan and the Jonas Brothers, brings this same attention to detail to the TwoThirds x Stan Clothing collection. The capsule features six limited-edition jackets crafted by Stan Clothing and accompanying pants and overshirts designed by TwoThirds.

For Stan Clothing founder Tristan Detwiler and TwoThirds founder Lutz Schwenke, the ocean has been a lifelong source of peace and grounding. Drawing inspiration from both the California and Mediterranean coastlines, the collection features natural, earthy tones and timeless silhouettes, intentionally designed to seamlessly blend with the coastal lifestyle and the functional needs of a surfer. Each piece of apparel is complete with exclusive TwoThirds x Stan Clothing iconography.

Specializing in zero-waste design and the use of low-impact deadstock fabrics, both brands demonstrate a commitment to sustainable and innovative fashion design, transforming often forgotten textiles into contemporary pieces. The collection’s jackets — handcrafted from French 18th-century linen grain sacks, adorned with unique stripes identifying different family farms and hand-mended with patches over the decades — are available for US$850 each. The unique story behind each chore-style surf jacket is told in Detwiler’s own words on the inside label. With the same attention to detail, the accompanying pants and overshirts crafted by TwoThirds are made from premium-quality linen and TENCEL™ Lyocell, respectively. T-shirts within the capsule are made of 100% organic cotton.

Reflecting on the collaboration, TwoThirds founder and CEO Lutz Schwenke shares, “Our brands have consistently led the industry by utilizing deadstock materials and embracing made-to-order, slow-fashion business models. Each piece of clothing we create has rich storytelling and heritage, ensuring that our customers cherish them forever. This new collection amplifies both our eco-conscious and heartfelt approaches. This collaboration is perfectly timed for TwoThirds as we expand our presence in the U.S. while remaining focused on our mission to spread the joy of the ocean and protect it for future generations.”

“What excited me most about this partnership is our collective ability to convey a meaningful message through our work,” says Stan Clothing’s Tristan Detwiler. “By combining our distinct yet aligned visions, we aim to showcase that fashion can uphold values of sustainability and authenticity, creating pieces that tell compelling stories and resonate deeply with those who value our planet.”

The TwoThirds x Stan Clothing collection officially launches on July 28, 2024, and will be available for purchase at TwoThirds.com and StanLosAngeles.com.
