WILLY CHAVARRIA NAMED CFDA MENSWEAR DESIGNER OF THE YEAR
Last night, the Council of Fashion Design in America hosted its annual Fashion Awards at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. Willy Chavarria won American Menswear Designer of the Year for the second year in a row. Musician Troy Sivan presented the award (both shown above). Raul Lopez of Luar took home the American Accessory Designer of the Year award.
Other awards included the American Womenswear Designer of the Year, which went to Rachel Scott of Diotima, and the Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year went to Henry Zankov of Zankov. Erykah Badu was named Fashion Icon, Vogue’s Hamish Bowles was presented with the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert, and Molly Ringwald presented the newly-renamed Isabel Toledo Board of Directors’ Tribute to Isabel Toledo. Ruben Toledo accepted the award on behalf of his late wife. The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Stephen Burrows, and Michael Kors was presented with the Positive Change Award. Anna Wintour presented Annie Leibovitz with the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard.
President of Amazon Fashion Jenny Freshwater introduced the Innovation Award Presented by Amazon Fashion, which was presented to Coach for Coachtopia. Creative Director Stuart Vevers accepted the award on behalf of the brand.
The event was hosted by Tony, Emmy, Grammy winner and Academy Award nominated Cynthia Erivo. CFDA Chairman Thom Browne opened the evening, and U.S. Senator for New York Kirsten Gillibrand also spoke.
