Yanks’ Posada to Accept K.I.D.S. Mentor Award
NEW YORK – New York Yankees’ catcher Jorge Posada will receive the K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations) Mentor award at the K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers birthday fundraiser to be held at the Mandarin Oriental New York on Dec. 4.
As previously announced, U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D.-Ill.) will deliver the keynote address at the event, where other honorees will be Fred Rowan and Joe Pacifico, chairman and president, respectively, of The William Carter Co., and Anthony Buccina, president of merchandising at The Bon-Ton Stores. Both firms are being recognized for their longstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Posada and his wife Laura are founders of the Jorge Posada Foundation, which provides financial assistance to kids afflicted by craniosynostosis, a disease with which the couple’s son, Jorge Jr., was afflicted soon after birth.
The December fundraiser is expected to attract more than 500 fashion industry executives.
The two organizations have donated over $500 million in new products to needy children and families in the U.S. and around the world. K.I.D.S., founded 21 years ago, channels apparel, footwear, toys, books and other products to 1,000 non-profit social for distribution. Fashion Delivers, founded in the wake of the Katrina and Rita disasters last year, directs products to victims of natural disasters and others in need.
