Z ZEGNA REINVENTS MENSWEAR STAPLES FOR FALL
For the fall/winter 2021 season, Z Zegna artistic director Alessandro Sartori breaks the boundaries between practical technicality, sophisticated leisurewear, and romantic elegance.
Menswear staples are reinvented and repurposed to meet the new needs of today’s world. Cardigans show elongated silhouettes wrapping around the body; oversized outerwear pieces reveal boxy and cropped cuts. A new cardigan shoulder jacket featuring a boxy fit is paired with soft pleated pants as a new suiting proposal. Shirts are re-dimensioned into over-shirts and over-jacket coats.
Innovative technology and forward-thinking design team-up to deliver lightweight, warm puffers filled with cutting-edge recycled paddings, while multi-pocketed highly functional outerwear styles are crafted from TechMerino wool with a ripstop structure. Thermo-sealed seaming and detailing provide protection from the wind and rain helping to maintain the feeling of internal comfort while braving the elements. Waterproof finished regenerated wools help re-make coats into performance outerwear.
At the forefront of sustainability, 75 percent of the materials used in the collection are recycled. Z Zegna combines ethic and aesthetic in high-end recycled cashmere sweaters with donegal or mouline effects, and in nylon and wool performance down jackets.
The refined color palette of timeless solids, spanning from ivory white, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, grey and black to a bold, energetic orange tone, is peppered by abstract prints and jacquard motifs echoing stylized fractured rocks. They evoke an outdoor atmosphere but also seem to symbolize the fragility of our human condition experienced during these uncertain times.
Fusing style and practicality, feather-weight travel bags get puffy, brogues reveal light and functional rubber soles, while blankets and hats exalt the lineup’s overall reassuring coziness.
Hansel, I’m sorry you didn’t get Mugatu’s Derelicte campaign. Maybe next time.
