ALEXANDER MCQUEEN PREVIEWS LATEST COLLECTION

by Stephen Garner

Alexander McQueen is continuing its focus on silhouette, bold volumes, and clean lines in its latest autumn/winter 2021 menswear collection.

With echoes of the brand’s pre-fall womenswear collection, creative director Sarah Burton utilizes saturated color and papercut prints in this minimalist collection. In fact, Burton said it best when describing the new collection, stating that this season is “a continued focus on silhouette. Saturated colour, papercut prints, and hybrids. A study of clothing and of character portraits.”

Some standout looks include a double-breasted tailored coat with kimono sleeves and a narrow waist in black Shetland wool bonded to satin, as well as a cropped MA1 bomber in khaki and orange McQueen graffiti poly faille jacquard. Plus, a single-breasted tailored suit with a straight shoulder in black and ivory papercut print wool silk aimed to steal the show.

Embroideries are also a high-point this season, like the crystal dove embroidery seen on a slash neck jumper in black chunky wool and cashmere knit and a crystal bullion and bead dove, heart, and sun embroidery on a double-breasted tuxedo jacket with wide lapels in black scuba wool. The latter embroidery combination was also featured on a beautiful double-breasted tuxedo coat as well as a tasty slash neck jumper in ivory chunky wool and cashmere knit.

As for shoes, look out for the Pieced and Patched boots in brown and black, Tread Slick Chelsea boots in red, chrome green, denim blue, and ultramarine, and the Worker lace-up shoes and boots in black.

Chunky chain jewelry is seen throughout the collection, including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in antique silver metal. Stone emblem jewelry, drop earrings, and brooches set with jet glass doves and hearts in antique silver metal are chic, while multi-hoop ear hooks, rings, and stacked bracelets engraved with floral and seasonal motifs including hearts, doves, and the sun in antique silver metal give the line some unique quirk.

And, don’t miss the Edge tote with an embroidered logo in black leather, as well as the McQueen Graffiti Tag camera bag and bottle pouch in ultramarine poly faille embroidered with the McQueen graffiti label.
