Amazon Adds Free Same-Day Delivery
Amazon has just added free same-day delivery to sate consumers’ lust for immediate gratification.
Now, Amazon Prime members in 14 U.S. cities can receive items the day they ordered them, free of charge. Eligible consumers can select from over 1 million items on the site.
Buyer beware: In order to receive a shipment by 9pm, orders must make a noon deadline and total more than $35 to be truly free (orders under $35 will cost $5.99). Before the announcement, same-day delivery was available for $5.99 for Prime members and $9.98 for non-Prime members for the first item, plus 99 cents for each additional item, according to FierceRetail.
Coincidentally, Amazon announced yesterday plans to hire 6,000 full-time workers to work at more than 50 distribution centers across the country.
Amazon’s initiatives seem to be paying off. Last month, the company reported quarterly results of its Web Services unit, revealing a 49% revenue boost to $1.57 billion. Overall, Amazon’s sales rose 15% in the latest quarter to $22.7 billion, beating analysts’ estimates, reported Bloomberg.
