ARCHITECT PHILIPPE STARCK DEBUTS A NEW KIND OF EYEWEAR HINGE

by Stephen Garner

Starck Biotech Paris has launched a new type of hinge with its spring 2020 “Sphere” eyewear collection by architect and designer Philippe Starck.

The new “Sphere” hinge, which has no screws or welds, offers multi-directional freedom of movement, a natural evolution of “Biolink technology” based on the flexibility of the human collarbone. Thanks to its unique design, Sphere allows the collection to offer a range of ultra-lightweight frames, combining slim titanium temples and injected frame fronts made with the Gravity Evo high-tech polymer.

Each of the five vintage-inspired optical and sunglass models in the Sphere collection are presented in an exclusive case covered in an eco-friendly material, 50 percent of which is derived from apple fibers.

The Sphere collection is now available for $205 – $230 in Alain Mikli’s Madison Avenue boutique. Similar Starck Biotch Paris frames are available on LensCrafters.com.
