BATTER UP! BILLY REID REFURBISHES RICKWOOD FIELD GIFT SHOP FOR TODAY’S NEGRO LEAGUES TRIBUTE GAME

by John Russel Jones

Today, Rickwood Field, America’s oldest baseball park and former home of the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues, is playing host to the MLB special contest between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. Today’s game is a tribute to the Negro Leagues.

Designer Billy Reid

An avid baseball fan, coach, and Alabama resident, fashion designer Billy Reid volunteered his and his team’s time and talent to refurbish the Rickwood Field Gift Shop. The chance for Reid and his team to add life and vitality back to the shop through unique and stimulating visual merchandising was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Gerald Watkins (at top, left, with Reid), Rickwood’s Executive Director and friend of Billy Reid, jumped on the chance to bring two Alabama legends together to help prepare the shop for what will be a historical celebration.
