BEAU TIES OF VERMONT CELEBRATES 30 YEARS

by John Russel Jones

Beau Ties of Vermont, a men’s neckwear and accessories brand, is proud to announce its 30-year anniversary.

Founded in 1993 in a spare bedroom in the home of Deb Venman and Bill Kenerson, a bow tie enthusiast, Beau Ties of Vermont launched with eight designs and a single-page flyer sent to 5,000 people. Today, those humble beginnings have blossomed into a full lifestyle brand of men’s and women’s accessories, most of which are handcrafted at their headquarters in Middlebury, Vermont.

While the company started as a niche bow tie brand, it slowly moved into designing and manufacturing other men’s accessories such as neckties, pocket squares, cummerbunds, and kids’ neckwear. When co-founder Bill Kenerson passed in 2012, Beau Ties of Vermont experienced a quick change in ownership before being acquired in 2019 by neckwear veteran and Tie Bar co-founder Greg Shugar.

“We’re now one of the last remaining made-in-the-USA neckwear businesses left,” Shugar noted. “But despite neckwear being down as a whole following Covid, we’re as strong financially as we’ve ever been. As a result, we’re now able to offer one of the largest assortments anywhere,” Shugar added.

The brand’s most recent men’s product expansion now includes 200-needle count dress socks made on Italian-made Lonati sock-knitting machinery, as well as men’s premium bamboo underwear. In 2021, Beau Ties of Vermont debuted its first assortment of women’s accessories, which includes aprons, tote bags, and headwear.

Beau Ties of Vermont is sold in department stores, men’s specialty shops, and custom tailors around the country.
