Once upon a time stores were places to store and sell stuff. In a digital age, this is no longer sufficient. Today stores need to tell stories. And those stories have to be highly visual and immediately shareable. In other words – “grammable”. Macmillan defines “grammable” as “something that’s worthy of being photographed and posted online via the Instagram photo-sharing application”. As the app has exploded in popularity, brands and retailers have needed to consider how to add social clicks to physical bricks. Visual merchandising has always been part of retail at its best, particularly since the late 1800’s and the widespread availability of plate glass for retail display windows.
