Work wear brand Carhartt plans to open a retail store in Detroit this summer, the first in the city and the 16th nationwide.
The company has leased three-story, 51,000 sq. ft. space is in Midtown Detroit in a historic art deco auto dealership building. The retail flagship will be on the first floor; the company said it hasn’t decided how to use the other two floors.
“We have long had a desire and need to open a store in our company’s birthplace and what many of us at Carhartt consider our own hometown. This is a very exciting chapter for our business,” said CEO Mark Valade.
Carhartt, founded in 1889, is based in Dearborn, Mich.
