CFDA Fashion Awards Nominations Criticized For Lack Of Diversity
The Council of Fashion Designers of America released its nominations for the 2020 CFDA Fashion Awards Monday and the lineup is sparking criticism. Of the 30 designers nominated, only four are Black and none are Black women. One of the categories that included a Black nominee was the Global Men’s Designer of the Year, which included Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton among white nominees Craig Green, Dries Van Noten, Jonathan Anderson for Loewe and Kim Jones for Dior. In the comment section of the CFDA’s announcement post, user @kappabashibashi wrote, “If there even is a person of color in your nomination selections, you have one token person of color for each category.
