Sale signs that are decking the halls of malls are unintentionally advertising that retailers are nervous about this holiday season, and that shoppers are likely to benefit from deals. Unlike some years, when pre-Black Friday discounts have been window dressing rather than substance, this year price cutting is already widespread.
