CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN GOES RETRO FOR FALL
French luxury designer Christian Louboutin presented its fall/winter 2018 men’s collection at a special event in Paris on Saturday, January 20.
The collection features 1970’s-inspired bold colors and prints in new retro silhouettes highlighting the influence of art, music, and sportswear. The use of breathable, sporty materials combined with extraordinary craftsmanship creates a modern statement shoe.
A tribute to the brand’s history, these styles take inspiration from the use of Kraft paper red-lined bags. Simple brown Kraft paper used to construct the brand’s shopping bags and shoe boxes, which also feature a stamped white Christian Louboutin logo, is repurposed using Louboutin’s signature ‘Trash’ technique. Pattern-making marks and measuring tape accents evoke the décor of a Parisian Couture atelier. Louboutin’s love of PVC continues this season, with graphic new sneakers and audacious constructions.
The decorative elements of Italian Rococo both traditional and modern is another key inspiration. New heavily decorative twists on classic silhouettes with color palettes inspired by the vivid and saturated colors of the Cinque Terre Italian villages, pay tribute to Italian Regalia. With a play on iconic materials, beautiful prints, and luxurious mixes, the brand celebrates timeless style and modern interpretation.
