CONVERSE TO RELEASE NEWEST COLLECTION WITH AMBUSH

by Stephen Garner

Converse has revealed the latest collection with longtime collaborative partner, Ambush

As a follow up to last year’s futuristic take on the Chuck 70 and Pro Leather, Converse and Ambush present two new takes on classic Chuck styles, rooted in heritage – a Chuck Taylor All Star Duck Boot and Fuzzy Chuck 70.

The collection’s newest silhouette, the Converse x Ambush Chuck Taylor All Star Duck Boot, is inspired by the wading boot constructed for outdoor utility wear when Converse began as a rubber company nearly 110 years ago. With this construction in mind, Yoon Ahn, the co-founder and creative director of Tokyo-based label Ambush, seized the opportunity to push the boundaries of traditional gear through a fresh lens, pulling in style references from modern Converse silhouettes and democratizing the design in both gender and form. Partial to the outsole of the Chuck Taylor All Star Lugged – for its enhanced outsole traction and lift – the team utilized the Lugged outsole as a base and built upwards, playing with proportion to enhance weather-resistance and functionality.

And, the new Converse x Ambush Fuzzy Chuck 70 is constructed with Longwool fuzzy upper and tongue and complete with a debossed patch logo, co-branded sock liner, and co-branded Ambush license plate.

Converse and Ahn also set out to highlight other creatives around the world – six creatives from New York, London, Taiwan, and China have interpreted the campaign and collection through their creative lens and with dynamic styling.

“The foundation of the shoes is the Chuck Taylor All Star, which has always been a sneaker for everyone, and this coincides with Yoon’s approach to design – one agnostic of a muse defined by gender or other classification,” said Matthew Sleep, global design director for footwear at Converse. “In chapter two, we used a lot of that same aesthetic language – functionality and durability still remains, albeit with fresh new design and irreverent style.”

“I believe that there is no distinct line between what is distinctly men’s or women’s in the sneaker world,” added Ahn. “I designed these pieces to offer functionality and fun, while they carry us into the destination we are heading to every day with ease.”

The collection will launch globally on November 24th at converse.com, ambushdesign.com, and select retailers.
