DANCING IN THE STORE…

by Karen Alberg Grossman

Want to create real excitement on the selling floor? Forget trunk shows and product videos: why not host a wedding?

Which is exactly what Ken and Jim Giddon decided to do at Rothmans NYC. The lucky couple: Ken’s daughter Amanda and her rock star husband Tyler, a well-known drummer. “We tore the store apart,” explains Ken. “Their official wedding, a small family ceremony, took place last summer in the Berkshires to accommodate the grandparents. But the celebration for friends happened just this past Saturday when 150 of the couple’s closest pals danced the night away in the 11,000 square foot store.

“It was a fabulous evening with a disco vibe to it,” Ken continues. “The dress code was funky formal. I wore a blue velvet jacket. It was fun to see so many people really dressing up in very creative versions of typical formalwear.”

Ken said that nothing in the store was damaged, but that set-up and clean-up took a lot of hard work. So would he do it again? His initial negative response was followed up by a maybe. “We have our 100th anniversary happening in 2026. So we might…”
