DIESEL INTRODUCES ‘THE GREEN LABEL’

by Stephen Garner

Diesel has increased its offering of responsible products under the company’s “For Responsible Living” sustainability strategy.

The Italian denim brand has introduced a handful of new denim styles developed in line with the brand’s recent commitment to a future-focused on sustainability, one that is more respectful of the environment but still always strong on the brand’s DNA.

For the fall/winter 2020 collection, the “Respectful Denim with Diesel DNA” features five denim styles produced with the brand’s environmental standards embedded in its Green Label, featuring classic, premium silhouettes in vintage washes, some with laser-etched scratches and abrasions. These garments have been created using new techniques that significantly reduce the use of water and chemicals during the production process. Every pair is treated with a minimal amount of GreenScreen certified chemicals, and the water used is reduced by up to 40 percent compared to conventional methods.

But now, more responsible practices have been applied to additional product categories, including short and long-sleeved t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies. Made from a hybrid textile of organic cotton and recycled polyester, the recycled fibers come from post-and pre-consumer waste, such as used plastic bottles and factory waste.

Available for both men and women, details include a graphic of recycling arrows—now reshaped to form the letter “D.” Diesel has also introduced Western flannel shirts made of entirely organic cotton that’s grown without the use of synthetic chemicals or genetically modified seeds. The collection also includes two double-breasted menswear coats, one short and one long, which have been made with 75 percent recycled wool and features notch lapels and zipped cuffs. The felted wool-blend fabric has been sourced from the Italian district of Prato, renowned for its regenerated textiles.

All garments delivered under Diesel’s “For Responsible Living” sustainability strategy will feature a specialized Green Label, that identifies those products which respect specific standards in relation to the material and/ or treatment used. Diesel is committed to increasing its responsible practices in order to minimize its impacts on the environment, and for the next spring/summer 2021 collection, the brand is committed to building on this journey even further.
