DR. MARTENS X RICK OWENS REVEAL TWO MORE SILHOUETTES FROM LATEST ARCHITECTURAL COLLECTION

by John Russel Jones

Last month, Dr. Martens debuted its latest collaboration with designer Rick Owens, featuring the dark, industrial grunge-glamour that has defined the partnership. Built on the British shoe brand’s new DMXL sole, this second drop continues a fusion of primal punk swagger and exaggerated, unconventional elegance. The two new boots are once again brought to life in an image campaign by producer, performer, and DJ Sissy Misfit (above).

The 1460 Jumbo Lace boot exaggerates Dr. Martens’ classic eight-eye silhouette, with oversized brushed silver eyelets, a thick outside zip, and extra-thick wraparound pearl laces. The formidable 1918 boot has 18 eyelets and equally dramatic wraparound lacing, with a scripted heel-loop signed in black and pearl. Both boots are fitted with extra-tall tongues and are built from supple Lunar leather, which lends unexpected softness to the brutalist structure of the boots.

Each boot stands on an inflated DMXL sole — one of the first designs to emerge from Dr. Marten’s experimental new design category, which pushes the boundaries of the brand’s DNA. Exaggerating classic construction, the sole combines lightweight EVA with durable PVC pods. It’s marked with DM’s grooving and secured with the brand’s iconic yellow welt stitching.

The Dr. Martens x Rick Owens capsule drops tomorrow, March 7th, 2024, at drmartens.com, rickowens.eu, and select retail partners.
