EXECUTIVE MOVES: DAN LEPPO MOVING TO SVP SPOT AT MACY’S

by Karen Alberg Grossman

In yesterday’s memo to Bloomingdale’s colleagues, chief merchant Denise Magid announced Dan Leppo’s move to SVP/GMM men’s and kids at Macy’s. He will report to Nata Dvir, Macy’s Chief Merchandising Officer.

Leppo began his 33-year voyage at Bloomingdale’s as an intern in 1992, soon joining the executive training program. His impressive career has placed him in numerous merchant and leadership roles, most recently EVP/GMM of Cosmetics, Menswear, Kids and Home. “Known as an inspiring leader,” says Magid, “Dan has played a pivotal role in shaping the culture at Bloomingdale’s, most notably as a leader of The Big Give Back. His dedication to giving back reflects the very best of Bloomingdale’s values, uniting colleagues to support causes that matter.”

Leppo has also been a recruiting partner for Bloomingdale’s Merchant Development and Internship programs, spending time on college campuses to mentor and inspire the next generation of talent. Predicts Magid, “As Dan transitions into his new role, I know he will bring the same energy, expertise and collaborative spirit to the men’s and kids businesses at Macy’s. His ability to curate compelling assortments, build strong vendor partnerships, and create engaging experiences will be invaluable in this next chapter.”

As can be expected, Macy’s menswear partners look forward to Leppo’s arrival on the scene. Says Peerless President Dan Orwig, “We are thrilled for both Macy’s and Dan as they embark on this exciting new chapter. Dan is an exceptionally talented leader with a deep understanding of merchandising and a strong product background. He is highly respected in the industry and brings invaluable expertise, particularly in the luxury market. We believe Macy’s will greatly benefit from his vision, product focus, and leadership. I look forward to continuing to work with Dan and supporting Macy’s as it pursues its Bold New Chapter strategy.”

And from Ron Rheingold, President of Weatherproof Vintage,

“Dan Leppo is a seasoned menswear professional. He brings his experience and a broad understanding of the overall fashion/value equation, which will align very well in his GMM role at Macy’s. We at Weatherproof Vintage look forward to working with him and the Macy’s team to continue to build our successful lifestyle brand at Macy’s.”

And from Glen Schanen at Roffe Accessories, former exec at Federated, Lord&Taylor and Macys:

“I’ve known Dan Leppo for a long time and he’s one of the most customer-centric merchants I’ve ever met. Laser focused on product, he’s also got terrific leadership skills: everyone who’s ever worked for him loves him. Somehow, whether the news is good or bad, everyone leaves his meetings feeling good. And everyone trusts him, which is why he has such strong relationships with his vendors.

“In addition to understanding people, Dan is truly passionate about product, as was his dad. I remember when I first started my career at Lord&Taylor, Dan’s dad Harold Leppo (L&T president) called me into his office; I was trembling, sure that I was about to get fired. Turns out, he called me up there to teach me about woven shirts, the category I was buying. He wanted to educate me about shirts. That ability to mentor—that’s what Dan got from his dad.

“Bottom line: Dan Leppo has the vision, talent, and personality to take Macy’s to the next level. Like Tony Spring, he’s focused on both the art and the science of it all.”
