Fadel Returns to Ashworth as Others Exit
NEW YORK – Edward Fadel has rejoined golfwear supplier Ashworth Inc as president. He succeeds Gary (Sims) Schneiderman, who has left the firm.
Ashworth also said Thursday that Peter Holmberg has resigned as executive vice president of green grass sales and merchandising of the Carlsbad, California-based firm in order to return to his home in Seattle. Furthermore, the company has eliminated 16 staff positions as part of its effort to streamline the company.
Fadel was with Ashworth between 2001 and 2004, most recently as senior VP of merchandising and design for both Ashworth and Callaway Golf. Since then, he has been vice president of merchandising at Greg Norman/Reebok. Earlier in his career he was founder and president of Elandale Golfwear and president of Cutter & Buck Big & Tall, a division of The Jeremy Dold Co.
“Eddie is a proven leader with unmatched experience in the apparel and golf industries,” said Peter Weil, Ashworth’s chief executive officer. “He brings to Ashworth a deep understanding of our customers, our business and our strategic vision. With more than 30 years of experience in the apparel industry, including approximately 20 years in the golf industry, Eddie is uniquely qualified to help Ashworth further capitalize on the progress we are making.”
Weil called the staff reductions “extremely difficult, but necessary,” adding that affected personnel have been provided with severance and other benefits.
