HIGHLIGHTS FROM NEW YORK MEN’S DAY: SESSION ONE
New York Fashion Week: Men’s commenced yesterday with the first session of New York Men’s Day, held at Dune Studios in the Financial District of Manhattan. Designers Head of State+, WOOD HOUSE, and David Hart shined while presenting their spring/summer 2018 collections.
I was welcomed with fresh coconut water, sponsored by Lab Series, as I walked into the show space.
Head Of State+ upped the ante with bold statement pieces, highlighting warm hints of red, orange, and mustard. I had the pleasure of meeting with the designer, Taofeek Abijako, who explained that the collection was inspired by the depictions of post-colonial clothing and culture from West Africa.
WOOD HOUSE took us to the field, literally — the brand presented a fun and colorful collection set on a baseball field. Mix of patterns and fabrics from pinstripes to patent were seen throughout, while British sport brand Gola provided the footwear for both WOOD HOUSE and Head Of State+.
David Hart never disappoints with another stellar presentation. His precision and attention to detail is admired. Tailored suits in beautiful pastel color printed shirts and women models who added a special touch to the presentation. Hart also continued his partnership with TOMS, with models seen wearing the Deconstructed Alpargatas, a new take on the iconic style, and the Huarache slip on.
