HUDSON YARDS TO UNVEIL ‘SHINE ON’ HOLIDAY DISPLAY THIS BLACK FRIDAY

by Stephen Garner

On Black Friday, November 29th, Hudson Yards will reveal its inaugural holiday program dubbed “Shine On.”

Visitors can expect a dramatic indoor-outdoor artistic light and music installation designed by Christopher Schardt, a full day of free live performances, and special events including appearances by the Brooklyn Ballet, award-winning acapella group Backtrack, the New York City Gospel Choir, Harpist Emily Hopkins, local dance troupes, and more.

At 5:00pm on Black Friday, the “Shine On” colorful light spectacle will debut for the first time this holiday season. Schardt’s installation, entitled Lyra, features a series of star-shaped sculptures, each comprised of thousands of individually controllable LED lights. The stars display images of stars, plants, birds, and abstract designs dancing across its surface, synchronized to a classical soundtrack evoking the holiday season. Visitors are also welcome to enjoy the Wells Fargo Lodge, located just outside of Vessel, for a 360-degree photo booth, hot chocolate sampling, holiday selfie cookies, charging stations, and more.

Fun and games continue inside The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards with exclusive products, offerings, and seasonal menus. On levels two and four, Wells Fargo kiosks will offer gift wrapping, holiday card photo opportunities, and more. On level three, SAP will host a “Holiday Match and Win” game with a chance to win prizes from Hudson Yards retailers.

Following Black Friday, Hudson Yards will host events and holiday experiences every Saturday and Tuesday through January 5th. The special “Shine On” show will occur every evening at 5:00pm, and the lights will undulate continuously throughout the day and night.
