INITIATIVES IN ART AND CULTURE PRESENTS 2015 FASHION CONFERENCE: TRAILBLAZERS
Initiatives in Art and Culture (IAC) has announced the lineup of its 2015 Fashion Conference to be held at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York on Thursday, November 12 – Saturday, November 14.
The 2015 Fashion Conference, entitled “Trailblazers,” focuses on those who fearlessly set out to transform that which had been deemed immutable—be it a garment, material, jewel, or method of production—into the new, the truly innovative. Over three days of talks, panel discussions, videos, film clips, and designers’ work, attendees will seek to understand the way trailblazers set out on their creative journey, and to draw strength from their success.
A highlight of the conference is a panel on denim on Friday, November 13th from 4:30pm until 5:30 p.m. that features François Girbaud, founder and owner of Marithé + François Girbaud, denim icon Adriano Goldschmied, Emma McClendon, curator of the upcoming exhibition “Denim: Fashion’s Frontier” at the Museum at FIT, and Mark Messura, SVP of global supply chain marketing at Cotton Incorporated.
Other speakers include: Andrew Bolton, Curator at The Costume Institute, The Metropolitan Museum of Art; designers Gabi Asfour of threeASFOUR, Maria Cornejo, and Nanette Lepore; legendary model Pat Cleveland; Teri Agins, author of Hijacking the Runway: How Celebrities Are Stealing the Spotlight from Fashion Designers; Robin Givhan, Pulitzer-Prize winning fashion critic for the Washington Post and author of The Battle of Versailles; Mickey Boardman, Editorial Director of PAPER Magazine; Ariel Foxman, Editorial Director of InStyle and StyleWatch; and Dennita Sewell, Curator of Fashion Design, Phoenix Art Museum.
