ITEM ALERT: THE DRESS POLO

by Karen Alberg Grossman

In our endless quest for the perfect polo, we think we’ve found some winners. Designer Edward Armah has come up with two quintessential “dress polos,” perfect under a sport coat or on their own. Crafted in Italy of mercerized Pima cotton, the Capri features a modern handset one-piece collar, handset sleeve head, mother of pearl button, contrast side gusset and trim. The collar is designed to roll naturally under the gorge of any style sport coat, holding its shape wash after wash.

The Milano is a classic three-button polo but elevated via pique cotton, contrast stitching, three MOP buttons matching the trim, detailed side gusset and collar with a natural roll, staying in place under a sport coat. Note, too, Edward’s iconic embroidered logo under the back collar and hidden between the second and third buttons.

From a retailer perspective, Sheldon from J. Michael/Haymaker in Nashville puts it this way, “This is the perfect execution of a one-piece collar. Looks fantastic with or without a coat. Should be a modern-day staple in every guy’s wardrobe!”

Check out these special polos at the Dallas Mart and the Chicago Collective.
