JOHN VARVATOS TO BE HONORED BY SAMUEL WAXMAN CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION

JohnVarvatos-331x500.jpgJohn Varvatos, who was recently honored by MR as one of its 2015 Game Changers at its annual dinner, will become the first menswear designer to be honored with the “Fashion Cares” award by the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation at its 18th annual benefit dinner and auction, which will be held on Thursday, November 12 at Cipriani Wall Street.

The event will be emceed by WCBS-TV news anchor Chris Wragge and feature a surprise musical performance. Varvatos is well known for his friendship with many of the world’s great rock stars, and has featured such icons as Ringo Starr and KISS in recent advertising campaigns, and recently started his own record label with Universal Music.

Over 1,000 corporate executives, board members, and guests are expected to attend this annual event, which will also feature an extensive live and silent auction.

Before launching his own label in 2000, Varvatos was best known for his work with Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. His company, John Varvatos Inc., now does a reported $250 million in sales, and has nearly two dozen stores, including outposts on New York’s Madison Avenue and on the Bowery in the former home of rock club CBGB. He has won three CFDA Awards, among other honors.

Previous recipients of the Waxman award have included Tadashi Shoji, Betsey Johnson, and Nicole Miller.
