Majestic Expands into Swimwear, Women’s

by MR Magazine Staff

NEW YORK – Majestic International, producer of loungewear and sleepwear, will launch two new classifications – Sea Scapes men’s swimwear and resort wear, and M pour la Femme women’s sleepwear – for spring 2008.

The swimwear group will include both 17- and 21-inch models and include both prints and solids. Models will come with a mostly-cotton liner and be merchandised with such resort components as knit terry and terry velour tops, campus shirts and T-shirts. Trunks will be made with a draw cord, Velcro closure back pockets, vents and either side seam pockets or a cargo pocket.

Wendy Thompson, vice president of USA operations, commented, “Many of our high-end retailers have expressed a need for better quality swimwear for the more affluent man who has moved beyond Tommy Bahama and Speedo. We’re targeting our existing customer base of better retailers who already buy some of our resort items.”

Thompson designed the line in tandem with Sam Landsman, president of Majestic, who oversees sales and distribution in Canada.

Retails for the group are expected to fall between $80 and $98.50. It will debut at The Collective in New York.

The women’s group includes silk nighties, robes and pajamas, separates and basics in loop terry and a waffle knit.

Majestic has been in business for over 85 years and produces men’s loungewear, robes and pajamas in addition to its new categories. It has licenses for Nat Nast loungewear, robes and pajamas; Club Med by ICU swimwear; and, in Canada, Pierre Cardin.
