MAJESTIC INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF BEING MAJESTIC

by John Russel Jones

Since its founding in 1924, Majestic International has built a reputation for producing quality garments with master craftsmanship, allowing it to grow in many distribution channels and across varied categories.

Majestic’s founder, Sam Cowan.

Company founder Sam Cowan began producing neckwear in Montreal with only a few sewing machines. When World War I hit and silk was needed for war efforts, the company began producing bathrobes and smoking jackets. In the 1940s, as styles and tastes evolved, Majestic quickly moved onwards, becoming Canada’s chief supplier of men’s bathrobes, sleepwear, and swimwear. In the 1990s, Majestic began to build its U.S. operations and is now honored to serve some of the finest retailers, hotels, and spas in the world.

Majestic now occupies a contemporary, LEED-certified (Leaders in Environmental Excellence and Design) building in Montreal. The building was built to meet rigorous specifications while implementing several earth-friendly initiatives. The 60,000-square-foot headquarters encompasses a modern, fully equipped sewing facility and current design technology. Our storage and retrieval system for inventory management effectively and efficiently uses vertical space. Our extensive network of overseas production facilities is comprised of fully inspected and trade-compliant factories.

“Majestic is grateful to the many customers, employees, and suppliers who have been part of our family and circle for so many years. Their importance is paramount in all our decision-making, and many of our employees have been with the company for decades,” says Sam Landsman, Majestic’s President and the third generation running the business. He has successfully pivoted and steered the company through the last few decades while holding onto the culture and heritage his grandfather created.

The company looks forward to celebrating with friends and customers this summer during the Chicago Collective, and thanks all of its employees and business partners for the close relationships built over the years.

  1. Hi Guys. Miss you all. You have always been a great company. Always evolving , great brands and ahead of the curve. You offered “ loungewear” long before anyone understood it. As well as maintained woven pajamas while others forgot to. Heres to a great team! 🍾🌹.

    1. Sam! I worked with your Dad and Sheldon in the good old days, I still remember, Sheldon and your Dad asking a good friend now Mark, to take me to my next appointment. Your company evolved with the times, and have successfully survived the turbulent times. I wished you, and all your team another 100 years of success.
