MALONE SOULIERS DEBUTS SNEAKER COLLECTION

by Stephen Garner

For autumn/winter 2021, Malone Souliers is expanding its footwear range with new sneaker styles for men and women. Minimal in design, but packed full of details, its new sneaker range reflects founder and creative director Mary Alice Malone’s continuing passion for taking the traditional cordwainer’s craft to unexpected places.

The new sneakers collection comprises two low-top styles for men and women, the Deon and the Musa. Both styles are inspired by the clean lines of 1960s sportswear, celebrating the natural shape of the foot with their elegant curves while maximizing comfort and versatility with a rounded, open toe-box, supple calf and nappa leather uppers, and flexible rubber soles.

Each style features the brand’s signature strap detailing across the toe, with a matching stripe on the heel tab and contrast binding on the tongue. The Deon, which features a curved, one-piece eyestay, takes this idea further, with a graphic stripe that runs along the side of the upper and across the sole. The Musa, meanwhile, reconfigures Malone Souliers’ asymmetric insignia, both in an exaggerated appliqué on the upper and a graphic, crest-inspired eyestay.

In keeping with the collection’s minimal aesthetic, the sneakers come in an adaptable palette designed for optimum versatility. Men’s styles come in tan and pine suede as well as classic black and white nappa leather with red or blue contrast detailing. Women’s styles are available in black, white, grey, and a range of light metallic nappa leathers, from bronze to rose gold.

“Introducing sneakers is an exciting moment for our business, which has always championed a forward-thinking approach to comfort and aesthetics,” said Malone. “It’s been a wonderful opportunity to translate the details that make our shoes so special into casual styles that can be worn for almost any occasion, in any season. The final result is a fantastic new expression of everything we’re about: impeccable craftsmanship, incredible comfort, and design that offers something intriguingly different.”
