MARK WEBER HONORED AT NEW YORK LAW SCHOOL

by Karen Alberg Grossman

Industry veteran Mark Weber hosted a special conversation last night at New York Law School. The focus was Always in Fashion, also the title of Mark’s radio broadcast and one of his books. Starting as a clerk in a clothing store, he rose to become one of the most influential execs in the fashion industry.

Weber’s sons, Jarrod Weber ’05, Group President Lifestyle, Chief Brand Officer, Authentic Brands Group, and Jesse Weber ’12, Anchor for the Law and Crime Network, also joined for a wide-ranging conversation alongside his outside counsel, David Kravitz, partner, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

Mark shared insights from a lifetime in fashion, offering guidance to those who aim to join the industry. Among his insights, the importance of legal guidance as brands navigate business, whether through trademarks, contract interpretation or conflict resolution. He also emphasized the importance of presenting yourself at the same caliber and quality that you present your brand. From the way you dress to the way you speak, presenting yourself in a positive and professional manner is key to success.

Jarrod Weber talked about how words matter, and also shared legal and business advice on differences in trademarks. (For example, in the US, the law is First to Use while in China, the law is First to File.)

“I was pleased to join my father and brother in conversation about the current state of the fashion industry,” said Jarrod. “As alumni of New York Law School, my family is proud to share insights into our careers and experiences with students and graduates. We look forward to seeing the many ways in which a new generation will utilize these expert insights.”
