JAKETT NEW YORK LAUNCHES MEN’S LINE FOR SPRING ’18

by Karen Alberg Grossman

Jakett New York, a fantastic collection of fashionable tissue-weight leathers and suedes, was recently launched for spring ‘18 by Joseph Greco, a highly successful maker of women’s leathers, and menswear maven Arnold Zimberg. This focused contemporary collection works because all styles are modern, well-priced, washable, versatile, perfectly detailed and incredibly lightweight. “I insisted on doing this men’s sportswear collection with a women’s manufacturer,” explains Zimberg. “They’re more innovative with fabrics, colors and proportions and they understand quick turn.”

Much of the Jakett leather and suede collection is sourced and crafted in the Mideast and retails in the $500-$750 range. (Styles with more specialized treatments, such as vegetable dying and indigo waxing, retail from $750-$900.) I loved a suede trucker jacket (lighter than denim), a baseball jacket with perforated sleeves and convertible collar, a double-zip detachable hoodie, a soft chamois motorcycle jacket, a fabulous perforated vest with detachable hood and a very hip blazer. Colors are cool neutrals: cloud blue, chino, chamois, black and silvery white.

Zimberg points out that these lightweight pieces should be considered sportswear, not outerwear. The collection also includes drawstring pants and joggers, cotton/linens with leather trim, and some incredibly priced faux leathers and suedes. For more information, check them out at Liberty Las Vegas or in their New York showroom, located at 244 W 39th Street. Contact Joseph at joseph@jakett.com.
