The prevalence of patchwork this season—at brands like Jil Sander, Junya Watanabe, Valentino and Ports 1961—indicates that, for some, luxury is about maintaining individuality, especially at a time when it feels as if the only thing separating two shirts is the tag on the inside. Many designers have used patchwork on familiar silhouettes like button-up shirts, jeans and jackets, giving guys a relatively safe way to make a fashion statement.
