Online luxury menswear retailer Mr Porter and Brazilian-inspired lifestyle brand Frescobol Carioca hosted a two-day-only display on July 15 and 16 at seaside hideaway, Sunset Beach Hotel on secluded Shelter Island on the east end of Long Island, New York. The Frescobol Carioca boutique opened for business Saturday morning and remained open through Sunday night.
To commemorate the pop-up, Saturday afternoon’s festivities included a cocktail hour in the hotel’s game room, hosted by Mr Porter’s U.S. Editor, Dan Rookwood, where select media, hotel guests, and friends of the brands were greeted by a live set by DJ José Padilla, renowned for his gigs at the Café del Mar bar in Ibiza. Directly following, guests were invited to a seated dinner at the local summer favorite, the Sunset Beach restaurant.
“Since opening our first store in London next to André’s Chiltern Firehouse, we’ve built a great relationship with the group and its amazing team,” said Harry Brantly, founder of Frescobol Carioca. “As such an iconic and fun hotel, Sunset Beach Hotel is regularly visited by our clients and we were therefore delighted to host a weekend in partnership with Mr Porter for our VICs (Very Important Cariocas)! Special treats for hotel guests on arrival, an exclusive dinner for friends of the brands, and, of course, a caipirinha or two made for a truly Carioca weekend, albeit on Shelter Island!”
Following the close of the weekend pop-up, styles from Frescobol Carioca will continue to be sold at Sunset Beach Hotel all summer long, including their swim shorts, which feature interpretations of the Copacabana and Ipanema calçadão designs, and eponymous Frescobol beach bats, hand-crafted by skilled artisans, known as marceneiros, and constructed using pieces of hand-collected driftwood and native hardwood offcuts recycled from Rio’s carpentry trade. The brand’s full product offering is available at their U.S. site and a curated selection of their signature styles are available at MrPorter.com.
