MR PORTER LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE CAPSULE COLLECTION WITH GALLERY DEPT

by John Russel Jones

Mr Porter has partnered with LA-based brand Gallery Dept. on an exclusive, limited-edition capsule collection launching today. The curated 26-piece collection is comprised of ready-to-wear and bags.

Aligned with the brand’s ethos to repurpose and reimagine vintage garments, many pieces within the collection are completely unique using upcycled garments or deadstock fabrics. Denim is prominent throughout the capsule, referencing the brand’s heritage of upcycling vintage Levi’s 501 jeans. Highlights include the G-patch denim jeans with hand-embroidered details, alongside the rip-and-repair denim jeans and jacket – these classic-shaped pieces are hand-distressed, printed over, and dyed to create a distinctive look with artistic integrity. Iconic T-shirts from the brand’s archive are available with “Art That Kills” slogans and hand-splattered paint detail alongside best-selling shapes in exclusive washes and abstract, bleached dyes.

With a nod to Gallery Dept.’s experimental use of patchwork, which is seen across a denim jacket, camouflage painter trousers, and a gilet, the classic hoodie is also customized with hand-stitched G-patch detailing, each one exclusive and one-off.

“We at Mr Porter pride ourselves on being a destination for discovery and bringing our customers the most in-demand and in-the-know brands, and Gallery Dept. is a great example of that. This capsule is a celebration of the long-standing relationship between our two brands and is the first time Gallery Dept. has worked with a retailer on this scale. Expanding beyond the must-have logo tees, we really wanted this collection to showcase the breadth of Gallery’s offering, which is something you really get a sense of when you visit their LA store. Hopefully, styles like the rip-and-repair denim and patchwork painters will help to bring that sense of artisanal craft to a global audience,” says Daniel Todd, Buying Director, Mr. Porter.

“The collaboration between Gallery Dept. and Mr. Porter is the perfect intersection to solidify what modern luxury is today,” added Josué Thomas, Gallery Dept. Founder, CEO, and Artist.

To celebrate the launch, Mr Porter will publish a dedicated story on its online publication, The Journal, which will feature LA-based artist Kordae Jatafa Henry wearing the exclusive collection.
