NORDSTROM OPENS NIKE SNEAKER SHOP IN ITS NEW YORK MEN’S STORE
Nordstrom and Nike have come together to open a new men’s concept shop from the Seattle-based retailer’s vice president of creative projects Olivia Kim. The Nordstrom x Nike Men’s sneaker boutique, collaboratively designed by Nike Design and Kim, will open on Thursday, April 18, with the re-release of some of Nike’s most sought-after sneakers including the React Element 87, the Air Max2 Light ‘Atmos’ and the Blazer Mid ’77.
Kim began her partnership with Nike in 2015 for a collaboration on a women’s-only lifestyle shop that blurs the lines of fitness and fashion as the ultimate sneaker boutique for women. Kim is now bringing the concept to men with its first physical boutique in New York City at the Nordstrom NYC Men’s store.
Nordstrom x Nike will house limited-edition product introduced each month featuring sneakers for runners and sneakerheads alike, curated collections featuring the best of Nike.
A curated selection of product from both emerging and some of the most compelling fashion brands will also be merchandised in the shop alongside Nike product to create a strong lifestyle offering. The shop will launch with an outpost of RTH, a Los Angeles-based men’s shop that specializes in handmade creations as well as a curation of books and limited run zines in partnership with NYC-based creative agency and publisher Vidoun.
To bring her vision of the Nordstrom x Nike Men’s shop to life, Kim collaborated with London-based designer Max Lamb, best known for employing innovative techniques to design contemporary pieces using natural materials. Lamb worked on the overall design of the shop environment including the creation of custom fixtures.
“Nike sneakers are a wardrobe essential for most of the men I know, regardless of their age, occupation or style,” said Kim. “We are excited to present Nike through an elevated fashion lens and New York is the best place to launch this concept. This is not another fitness-only shop, or straight sneaker destination.”
Kim continued, “We hope that this is a place where men come to discover unexpected product, find inspiration and take their personal style to the next level. We are proud to be offering our customers some of the best merchandise out there in a creative new environment paired with a strong customer experience.”
To celebrate the opening of the boutique, Nordstrom x Nike will be hosting a party on the evening of the 18th, featuring a live set from iconic New York DJ duo, Stretch & Bobbito.
This marks the sixth Nordstrom x Nike sneaker boutique to open. The current Nordstrom x Nike women’s locations include its Eaton Centre store in Toronto, Michigan Avenue store in Chicago, and Nordstrom Downtown Seattle.
