OLD FRIENDS ARE BEST FRIENDS

A few years back, I got lucky enough to garner an occasional invitation to the quarterly meetings of retired (and semi-retired) menswear industry execs. These gatherings take place at the fabulous Primola restaurant on the Upper East Side, where the food and service are always memorable.
More than usual, this meeting was a lively one as U.S. politics was front and center on all minds. But instead of the yelling and screaming one might expect, it was a calm and respectful exchange of ideas and opinions, with a few former leftists moving decidedly to the center of the political spectrum.
Equally important was talk of “working from home” and how it’s impacted family dynamics. “Why is it,” asks Jim Ammeen, “that my wife calls me from the driveway to unload the groceries when she somehow managed to do it herself for all the years I worked in an outside office?”
Question to ponder… How lucky am I to share reflections on life with this wonderful group!
Really funny, but true. I was constantly traveling all the time as a clothing rep for many years and I am sure my wife managed to carry the groceries from the garage to the kitchen in our raised ranch. Then the phone call or yell to help with groceries. Can’t blame her!
Primola was across the street from the building, where I lived in Manhattan for 41 years. Now living in South Beach. There are basically no fashion retirees here, so I try to stay active as a mentor and consultant in the fashion community down here.
Most of the younger people regard me as an elder statesman of the menswear industry. At 77 I suppose they are right lol.
This picture of you all together is so sweet!
Lots of love all around. Hugs.
