OUTERKNOWN OPENS SHOP IN MALIBU
Sustainable lifestyle brand Outerknown has opened its second brick-and-mortar retail space, located at the Malibu Country Mart, a celebrated outdoor lifestyle destination in the heart of Malibu, California.
Following the opening of Outerknown’s first flagship in El Segundo, CA in the fall of 2019, this store is the brand’s latest effort to expand its physical presence in a key, existing market. An ideal location with many connections to the Outerknown lifestyle, Malibu is frequented by locals and celebrated by tourists, with proximity to some of the world’s best waves, trails, and nature.
The 856 square-foot, light-filled space is nestled among a cluster of upscale boutiques and restaurants in California’s premier seaside destination. Aiming for a minimalist aesthetic and low environmental footprint, Outerknown’s Malibu store is brought to life by sustainable accents and furnishings, such as locally-sourced oak wood for fixture builds and recycled fabrics and soy-based inks for signage.
Outerknown’s hero products are curated for the store, including a large assortment of its beloved Blanket Shirts, to everything that pairs well with them — from S.E.A. Jeans, to terry cloth Hightide Sweats, and more. With the beach just steps away, the store will also include a comprehensive swim section, including the Apex Trunks by Kelly Slater. The Malibu store also features digital integrations, which allows the brand to tell unique, in-depth product stories and offer access to Outerknown’s full product offering.
Outerknown plans to continue its retail expansion over the next few years in an array of national locations through which they can tell the Outerknown story holistically. “With the world starting to reopen, we are excited to be in Malibu as people come back out to experience the brand in person,” said Mark Walker, CEO of Outerknown. “As we expand, we are strategically looking for locations where there is a concentration of people who believe in what the brand stands for: a commitment to People and Planet and our 2030 circularity goals. The community in Malibu is already living a life where they think about their impact, and we believe they will embrace Outerknown as part of their sustainable lifestyle.”
