“My coat is by Officine Générale. I purchased it a little over two years ago from Bergdorf Goodman. I love the classic look this coat has, while having subtle design elements that make it different – a half-raglan sleeve, adjustable cuffs, and an ever-so slightly oversized fit.”

MATTHEW B.

Online vintage reseller and model

“This coat is true vintage from the ’80s. I bought it last month from a vintage shop in upstate New York for around $150. I have been looking for a Leather Rider Jacket that fits my long arms perfectly without sacrificing the crop of the body. This one is special to me because it features hand stitched patchwork all over the body. I sell a lot of reconstructed items with patchwork on my store denimglasses.com, so it was fitting to finally settle on this purchase. “

“I received this Fear of God Essentials coat as gift last Christmas. The oversized fit goes perfect with my wardrobe and is so easy to throw over almost anything. Real New Yorkers don’t zip up their jackets!”

VINCENZO D.

Lawyer

“My coat is from Cockpit USA and was a gift last October from my (now) fiancé. I like that it reminds me of him and keeps me warm even when we are apart.”

“I got this coat thrifting in Brooklyn about two or three weeks ago. It’s by The Jones Collection and cost $15! I also bought the scarf there for $10. Twenty-five dollars isn’t bad for a whole winter look, right?!!?”

MICHAEL M. AND MARK M.

Certified Financial Planner (Michael) and Therapist/Professor (Mark)

Michael (holding their show-dog dachshund Maggie): “My coat is HellyTech. The lining is mink and done by Madison Avenue Furs. The hood is also lined in mink with a hood trimmed in raccoon. I bought it last year from Madison Avenue Furs for $1,750. It’s the warmest coat I’ve ever had and can be worn in the coldest weather with just a T-shirt underneath. What makes a great coat? Style, of course, but also utility and warmth.”

Mark (walking their other show-dog dachshund Lilly): “My jacket is Schneider’s of Salzburg. I purchased it in January for about $370. It’s versatile and I can wear it as a sports coat or an outerwear jacket. I can dress it up with a tie or just wear it with jeans. Loden cloth is warm and water resistant.”

LEO C.

Architect

“This khaki plaid mid-long trench peacoat is from online retailer Bella Valentina but I don’t think that they are the manufacturer. I got it about two months ago for approximately $150. I like the classic small-scale houndstooth plaid. It’s always elegant and goes with everything. The mid length is always very flattering for my body type. Since I’m in the creative field I like to find unique items – not from mainstream retailers – but that are also stylish and have a good fit.”

ANTHONY B.

Residential building security guard

“Mine is by a brand called Canadian Weather. It’s a new coat that I bought in December at Burlington for $70. It’s an all-weather coat: It’s a raincoat and a winter coat. It’s really, really warm.”

JEAN-PIERRE A.

Luxury menswear salesperson

“I found this coat by Dsquared2 at a sample sale in 2016. The color immediately caught my eyes, especially since it is a bright, happy color and New York City is always filled with depressing navys and blacks. (And there is no time that I wear this coat and don’t get a compliment.)”
