RALPH LAUREN PURPLE LABEL GOES SUPER LUX FOR FALL ‘19

For fall 2019, Ralph Lauren looks to iconic references that have defined decades of his designs, from the heritage of equestrian motifs and the graphic modernity of sports to the timeless tuxedo—bringing a fresh energy to his signature elements through cutting-edge constructions, modern performance fabrications, and bold new accessories.

The foundation of the collection takes inspiration from Mr. Lauren’s deep affinity for the equestrian lifestyle. Grounded in a rich fall palette of burgundy, forest, and navy and a hybrid of luxurious materials from cashmere tweeds and supersoft suedes to premium plush velvets, the collection is rich with exquisite details—including archival equestrian scarf motifs rendered in laser-cut leather or printed on a down jacket. The RL Stirrup Watch inspired new takes on signature hardware, such as the closures on a wool overcoat, leather belts, and burnished-leather footwear. Novelty pieces bring a fresh energy to the collection’s heritage spirit, including a silhouette directly inspired by Mr. Lauren’s wardrobe: a tartan-printed leather A2 Bomber Jacket with hand-painted graphics. Each outerwear style is paired with high-waisted, pleated trousers, wool-cashmere turtlenecks, and Fair Isle sweaters for a perfect fall statement.

Formalwear tells a story of a romantic, sophisticated gentleman in printed tartan velvet suits, black velvet tuxedos, and purple velvet trims lining the collars of overcoats. The Ralph Tux, a double-breasted evening suit reflecting the measurements and style in which Mr. Lauren himself wears a tuxedo, is the latest evolution of The Ralph Suit, introduced last season and updated for fall in a new array of fabrics. Daywear features soft, tonal velvets in a variety of colorways: caramel, brown, soft blue, grey, and deep purple—all the more elegant when worn with a coordinating velvet shirt and tie. Velvet trousers are also paired with like-colored sport jackets and fine turtlenecks, creating a refined, monochromatic look. Alternatively, a group of charcoal tailoring is offset by bright pops of color: vibrant pink and yellow cashmere turtlenecks for a graphic take on classic suiting. The camel Cuddle Coat is the statement-making piece of the collection, crafted from the same fabric used by Steiff, the original producer of the iconic Polo Bear.

The final group is inspired by the glamour of Gstaad: from a day on the slopes to an evening in town. Based in red, white and black, this collection of graphic sportswear is powered by RLX tech fabrics printed with archival graphics of automotive dials and dashboards. New silhouettes range from funnel-neck jackets and merino wool suits to down coats in both elongated and cropped proportions. The Polo Bear makes his appearance on a sweater, wearing a ski outfit complete with goggles, red ski boots, and an RLX jacket. Accessories create the ultimate expression of sporty modernity in this group, with pop-off luxury-utility belt bags and new footwear styles reimagined from iconic RL athletic shoes. The result is a signature Ralph Lauren sportiness reimagined as the ultimate, elevated expression of the Purple Label sensibility.
