ROWING BLAZERS RELEASES LATEST SPERRY COLLAB

by Stephen Garner

Rowing Blazers and Sperry are continuing their partnership with the drop of a new fall ‘19 collection.

Launching today, the latest edition of this partnership features four iconic Sperry classics designed in collaboration with Rowing Blazers’ founder and former U.S. team rower Jack Carlson. Inspired by British tweed and by the brand’s much-loved rugby shirts, the capsule is rooted in the classics but with a decidedly youthful and irreverent edge.

For this collection, Carlson updates the CVO sneaker in a herringbone tweed in two colorways. The Seamate shoe is refreshed with mismatched red and green stripes, while the Authentic Original 2-eye boat shoe receives a preppy upgrade with a houndstooth pattern and premium check-tweed uppers. All styles feature premium materials, Razor-Cut Wave-Siping sole technology, and non-marking rubber outsoles.

“I’ve always loved clothing and especially shoes that are somehow simultaneously traditional and unconventional. Sperry’s always fulfilled that definition, but I think we’ve taken it a step further with this collaboration,” said Carlson. “We’re using traditional fabrics like herringbone tweed and gun check – but in an unexpected place (shoes), and with brightly colored foxing on every pair. My favorite pair is the mismatched rugby stripe pair. The colors are subtle and collegiate, but the idea that this pair might be conservative is turned on its head by the fact that the two shoes literally don’t match. Sperry is a wonderful collaborator, and the team is totally on the same page as we are at Rowing Blazers: we are a very 21st-century blend of the classic and the iconoclastic.”

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Rowing Blazers, and this second collaboration is extremely strong, blending Rowing Blazers’ quirky styling and Sperry’s classics,” added Adam Meek, senior vice president of product at Sperry. “Collaborations work best when the participating brands share synergies, and Sperry and Rowing Blazers, complement each other perfectly.”

All styles, which retail between $98 and $140, are available now at the Rowing Blazers clubhouse in New York, at sperry.com, and rowingblazers.com.
