What Are The Most Searched Fashion Terms Of 2017?

With the end of the year fast-approaching, the time has come for all of those end-of-year round-ups. Along with the highest-paid models and the most liked brands on Instagram, new research by fashion search platform Lyst has now revealed this year’s most looked up terms. Taking the top spot was ‘power’, although maybe it referred to a lack of it? It could also be referring to the power suits and shoulders that we saw at Vetements, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. Empowerment is a running theme in the list, with ‘woke’ coming in second place. After finding itself added to the Oxford English Dictionary this summer, activism also cropped up on the runway via Dior’s “We should all be feminists” t-shirts, as well as pro-black sweaters and that viral Frank Ocean tee. While you might think ‘ugly’ is a surprising word to make the list, brands seem to have pushed ugly-chic to the limit this year. At the forefront of the trend is undoubtedly Balenciaga, championing dad dressing with IRL dads on the runway and turning an Ikea bag and Crocs into must-have items. Elsewhere on the list were more obvious phrases like florals, extra and millennial. The latter probably thanks to Gucci, who reportedly pool the knowledge of a secret panel of them.
