PERU SWIMWEAR SHOOT: DIRECTOR’S CUT

by William Buckley

As the northern hemisphere gears up to bid the summer season farewell, and tries to make the most of the swiftly dwindling opportunities to sport SS15 swimwear, we look ahead to SS16. Newer kids on the block like Thorsun and Dan Ward are joining trailblazers Orlebar Brown in the bid to broaden the men’s swimwear market. While women are used to endless options, us guys are quickly catching up.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Peru Moda, the textiles and fashion trade show that showcases the best of Peruvian fabrics like pima cotton, alpaca and vicuna. With one spare day at the end of a very busy schedule, I had considered taking that time to explore the city on my own, and soak up some of the broader Peruvian culture. But a glutton for punishment, I decided to squeeze in a photoshoot instead. Armed with a camera bag on one shoulder, a bag of swimwear and accessories on the other, and sundry hair and makeup products also about my person, I met up with Peruvian native and male model Franco Noriega to shoot swim for MR’s August issue.

With only six pages for the shoot in the print magazine, a lot of great shots didn’t make the cut. Lucky for all of us that mr-mag.com has big boy bandwidth, and after a grueling morning sifting through the hundreds of images we shot that day, I’ve whittled it down to 20, below. NB: Watch out for the shots with cameos in the background. Priceless.
