THE BROOKLYN CIRCUS OPENS THE SPACE IN SOHO
Celebrated Brooklyn creative Ouigi Theodore of The Brooklyn Circus is opening The Space, the brand’s second brick-and-mortar location, at 361 Canal Street in Manhattan on Friday, April 21st. In advance of the shop’s official grand opening as a BKc store, the company plans to offer The Space to members within its network as an experimental, rotating experience that keeps cultural responsibility and community wealth building top of mind.
The gallery-format 1,100 square-foot concept shop remains intentionally in process, as BKc offers exclusive on-site access to collaborators within The Brooklyn Circus community. Brands participating in the space include:
- Art Comes First – Creative Directors, Sam Lambert & Shaka Maidoh
- Fleetwood Fernandez – Creative architecture and design firm, Hunter Fleetwood and Mariapaz Fernandez
- Mac Premo – Award-winning artist and “stuffmaker”
- John Midgley – Award-winning photographer
- Scott Newkirk – Renowned fashion and interior stylist
- Julian Alexander – Queens-based visual artist and illustrator
- Arturo Castañeda – Founder of Storytellers & Creators, Mfg.Co
- Wanda Lephoto – South African menswear designer
To celebrate the opening, The Brooklyn Circus has organized an inaugural portrait photoshoot spotlighting 25 thinkers, creators, dreamers, fighters, movers, and collectors, all wearing tees and sweatshirts from the brand’s latest collection, BlaKc Wash.
Designed in collaboration with the famed creative team, Art Comes First, BlaKc Wash features monochromatic tones and striking silhouettes that contrast with the standard BKc silhouette and blank, minimalist nature of The Space. This drop will serve as the first exclusive release that is made available at The Space.
“With the opening of The Space, I’m excited to begin a new chapter and be able to share my love for art, style, exploration, sustainability, people, culture, and community collaboration through a premium retail experience,” says Theodore. “The goal is for The Space to be truly interactive with art, music, and our 100-Year Plan being at the core of its existence.”
A Haitian immigrant who was raised in Brooklyn, Theodore has developed a detailed 100-Year Plan to solidify The Brooklyn Circus’s legacy and authentically drive culture forward with The Global Village. Members of this group include multi-faceted creatives who think in and out of the box while working to enrich the collective community’s wealth. Through the 100-Year Plan and The Brooklyn Circus’ style releases, Theodore aims to tell untold stories and inform the future by incorporating elements of the past.
