TODD SNYDER OPENS STORE IN WILLIAMSBURG

by John Russel Jones

Todd Snyder has opened his sixth permanent store in Brooklyn, New York’s Williamsburg neighborhood. As a New York City founded and based brand, Snyder has been eyeing the outer borough for some time and wanted to ensure the first outpost serves as a one-stop-shop for all his customers’ wardrobe needs and as a destination for discovery for locals and travelers to experience the world of Todd Snyder.

“When I opened my first shop in downtown Manhattan in the early 2010s, Williamsburg was just starting to enter the conversation as the next up-and-coming neighborhood. Now here we are ten years later, and Williamsburg has become one of the most idyllic neighborhoods in New York City with a robust offering of some of the best shopping, food, arts, and entertainment,” says Snyder. “We have grown such a big customer base in Brooklyn, especially Williamsburg, that we are so excited to be welcomed to this neighborhood.”

The 3,000 square-foot shop is in the historic Mill Building on North 3rd Street and Wythe Ave. The arrival of the store clearly stands out in the neighborhood, with the exterior brick painted in Todd’s signature Snyder Olive, blaze orange benches, and planters of greenery along the storefront.

Upon entering the space, visitors are greeted by a mid-century meets utility reimagining of the industrial space. The space, illuminated by translucent drop globe lighting, highlights the original structure’s utility framework and brick, refined with custom board and batten walls painted in Snyder Olive and chevron-striped natural pine floors.

The front entry features a curated shop of Todd’s greatest hits, including made in USA denim and shirting, Italian Suede Dylan Jackets, made in L.A. indigo tees, and a selection of rare one-of-a-kind vintage jewelry pieces sourced by Foundwell atop a vintage billiards table from 1stDibs.

Past the entry, is the store’s main multi-room shop with views onto Wythe Ave. The custom woodwork & fixtures continue in the brand’s signature Snyder Olive, complete with custom brass details and fixtures. The second room carries an assortment of summer essentials, like the best-selling Weekend Short, RIviera Sweater Polos, and a range of shirting in Sea Soft Irish Linen, seersucker, and souvenir prints. The back room introduces a mix of luxe essentials, highlighting staple pieces like a vast assortment of Italian Cashmere, Italian Sport Coats, Selvedge Oxfords, and Suede Dylan Jackets. The shop is complete with a wall of sunglasses highlighting Todd’s longtime partnership with New York-based eyewear brand, Moscot–plus an Aēsop shop-in-shop experience, a signature partnership for the brand, complete with the apothecary brand’s famous grooming and fragrance products.

The space continues with a Swim Shop, highlighting an assortment of the brand’s first-ever mainline swimwear, terry-cloth cabana sets, and summer-weight Made in L.A. tees and luxe linen sweaters. Throughout are some of Todd’s favorite brands like jewelry from Miansai and M.Cohen, towels by Lateral Objects, Freedom Moses, and made in Spain footwear and accessories by Guanabana.

The store would not be complete without the brand’s signature Shoe Shop, with walls filled with Todd’s hand-picked favorite footwear brands from New Balance, Vans, and Converse, to Alden, Birkenstock, Paraboot, and many more. This shop will serve as the premier footwear destination for the neighborhood and will continuously introduce new styles and exclusive collaborations for customers. Off the shoe shop is a custom built-in bar, where customers are invited to have a glass of whiskey or cocktail while they shop the latest collections. Atop the bar is an assortment of Musgo Real fragrances, plus a vitrine of vintage timepieces ranging from Rolex, Omega and Cartier sourced by our friends at Foundwell.

The location will continuously carry a number of collaborations and brands exclusive to the brand and space, making this Williamsburg location a space for discovery throughout the neighborhood. The shop features an exclusive offering of one-of-a-kind American workwear, outdoors, and Ivy-prep clothing, sourced by Brian M. Davis, founder of New York’s Wooden Sleepers. This location also carries an exclusive assortment of bags and clogs from King Kennedy Rugs, the Made in L.A. brand that uses vintage rugs and textiles from around the world to create wearable works of art. Throughout the year, this location will host a number of exclusive sneaker drops, including a special re-release of one of Todd’s most famous styles. (More details to come from the brand soon.)

As with every store location, Todd’s signature hand and attention to detail are evident in the finishing touches. Each room balances utility-inspired details with rare mid-century furniture and artwork, sourced from places like Hudson, NY-based dealer, Finch, and around the world through 1stDibs. The artwork was hand-picked by Todd and features a selection of works from the renowned Corey Daniels Gallery in Maine. The rooms are accented with tabletops of rare books available for purchase, rugs from ABC Carpet & Home, Morris & Co. wallpaper, and lighting from Roman & Williams Guild.

“As we expand into key growth markets, the design of our stores and how they support our sales goals are extremely important. A Todd Snyder store will bring consumers into the world of Todd Snyder, showcasing our product but also in-house tailors or Made-to-Measure services, adding in hospitality aspects like a cafe or bar, or partnering with brands like Aēsop and Moscot to open shop-in-shops inside our stores,” says Todd.

“We are strategic about using our shops as a hub for services that will naturally bring people through the door and then convert them into a Todd Snyder customer.”

The Todd Snyder Williamsburg store is open now, Monday through Saturday 11 AM – 7 PM ET and Sunday 12 PM-6 PM ET. The location will offer same-day courier service, private shopping appointments, in-house tailoring, and Made-To-Measure services. This is the sixth location of the brand, with a seventh opening in early fall in Los Angeles, the first West Coast flagship for the brand. Additionally, Todd Snyder has plans to open several other locations in key metropolitan markets throughout 2022 and onwards.
