Fall 2015 Trends: Knitwear
We’ve been in a woven cycle for a few years now, but after walking the New York trade show floors last week, one thing is clear: knits have arrived. Whether they’re chunky sweaters, lightweight crew necks or cardigans, make sure to have an assortment of knitwear on the floor for fall.
Hommard was created in 2009 by Jerry Ooms as a contemporary collection rooted in cashmere. For fall 2015, Hommard expands its offering from sweaters and cardigans (starting at $300 retail) to pieces like unstructured jackets, polo shirts and cashmere baseball jackets.
Di Maestro is showing some beautiful garment-dyed cashmere sweaters for fall. Matteo Perin, Di Maestro’s USA director, says that the reason for garment dying cashmere is to show all the stitching and details in the knit. This Italian brand is sold at U.S. stores like Peter Elliot, Beecroft & Bull and Oak Hall.
C89 is always a favorite of mine because of its on-trend offering. This season’s favorites include marled yarns and super soft, dressed-up hoodies. Wholesale prices range from $120 for cashmere, $60 for merino, $50 for wool blends and $40 for cotton.
Loft 604 has evolved from a loungewear collection to a luxurious knitwear brand made from Australian merino wools. Sweaters retail from $178 to $300 and are sold at stores like Stitched in Las Vegas and GotStyle in Toronto.
Benson is designed by a father/daughter duo and produced in the family’s Turkish factory. The look of the collection is “super cozy but stylish,” and the perfect example is this athletic-inspired sweater.
Culturata, a brand known for luxe wovens, is breaking into the knit category with a gorgeous offering for fall.
Zachary Prell is another brand that got its start with woven shirts and since grown into a full lifestyle collection. Knitwear retails from $198 to $395.
