WHAT TIME IS IT? IT’S PITTI TIME!

by John Russel Jones

Although last week’s announcement that Todd Snyder would be making a return to runway (and wholesale, albeit only in Europe for now) was exciting, to be sure, that won’t be the only buzz at this coming January’s Pitti Uomo event in Florence. To announce the biannual menswear touchstone’s many other initiatives, CEO Raffealle Napoleone hosted a lunch for editors, influencers, and other menswear execs at New York City’s Baretto at Fasano restaurant earlier this week.

Pitti Uomo 105 will take place at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from January 9 to 12, 2024, showcasing 835 brands for fall/winter 2024. This year’s theme? PittiTime! Joining Todd Snyder for special presentations will be Luca Magliano from Bologna, featuring the designer’s minimal, genderless style. Guest designer Steven Stokey-Daley of S.S. Daley, from Liverpool, will also show his eccentric take on British heritage.

Iconic denim brand Guess will launch a new sustainability-focused collection by Nicolai Marciano, while iconic footwear brand Tod’s will present its collaboration with automaker Lamborghini. Finnish designer Achilles Ion Gabriel will debut his eponymous collection, as well.

Father and daughter designers Stefano and Corinna Chiassai will present Velvet Mi Amor, an installation based on the duo’s book that explores how the ancient fabric has transformed over the centuries.

International collaborations will include Neudeutsch, a group of 17 young German designers appearing at Pitti for the first time, as well as the Scandinavian Manifesto, a partnership between Pitti and Cliff X Revolver from Copenhagen. JQuality Factory Brand Project sees the return of 12 certified Japanese manufacturers to Pitti, presented in collaboration with Hirofumi Kurino, and Aldo Maria Camillo. From the United States, Detroitissimi will spotlight the creativity of eight brands from the motor city.
