WILLY CHAVARRIA DEBUTS ‘CUT DEEP’ COLLECTION AT NYFW

by Stephen Garner

Willy Chavarria presented his spring/summer 2022 “Cut Deep” collection as part of New York Fashion Week on Wednesday evening.

Set in an Astor Place barbershop in lower Manhattan, a story of grit and glamour came to life as Chavarria’s endurance and passion were told eloquently through the design and production of the show.

The clothing features luxurious fabrics in familiar but unusual shapes. A button-down work shirt becomes ethereal with exaggerated collar points and an unnaturally high neck. Trousers sit high on the waist in exciting colors and shapes that intrigue – knees that kick out and thighs that bow. Paired with workwear-inspired washes and fabrications, the collection is an exhibit of Chavarria’s design acumen and range.

The show is in partnership with Squarespace offering a see-now, buy-now experience for the audience with select styles available for immediate purchase on Chavarria’s Squarespace website following the unveiling of the collection. The partnership also includes a donation program to benefit “It’s From the Sole,” a non-profit organization providing footwear to people experiencing homelessness in New York City.
