WILLY CHAVARRIA LOOKS FOR TRUTH AND HUMAN CONNECTION IN FALL COLLECTION
As part of New York Fashion Week: Men’s, designer Willy Chavarria presented his fall/winter 2018 collection, dubbed “Believers” at Pier 59 Studios on Monday, February 5.
The new collection tells the story of longing for truth and human connection in a chaotic and dark digital age. With a renewed concentration on realism as seen through the use of his models, approach to styling, and graphics, “Believers” is as much a statement of the state of the world as it is a hope for our future.
Big, brave, and thick-skinned are the garments that immerse us in a surprisingly soft and lightweight feeling of warmth, featuring beautiful Peruvian yarns including Pima and tanguis cotton, as well as luxurious baby alpaca. The season focuses on further evolving his signature oversized workwear silhouettes and utilizes a muted color palette of washed blacks and faded gray.
The collection includes a jewelry collaboration with Chrishabana, combining religious iconography, drug use, and the American incarceration system with a gold crucifix switchblade necklace and a sacred heart coke spoon. Footwear was provided this season by Florsheim.
